These guidelines provide an overview of criteria for
the most common artwork formats used for imprinting promotional products
and apparel, including both vector and raster artwork files.
However, there are specific requirements (e.g. imprint area, color options,
etc.) based on the
individual product and imprint method. As such, please contact BNoticed for the specific
requirements of your product. As an alternative, use our optional Artwork
Services and we’ll
take care of it all for you and send you a final proof for your approval! - Vector artwork or graphics use geometrical forms such as lines,
curves and shapes that represent images (including text) in computer
graphics.
- Vector Artwork is the most common form of artwork that is needed
for printing on promotional products and clothing.
- Vector artwork is most frequently created using applications such
as Adobe Illustrator.
- It must to be saved as an eps (“.eps”) or Postscript Format. This
allows your document to be opened in either PC or MAC systems.
- All fonts or text must be converted to vector graphics. The illustration
below depicts how fonts saved as vector art appear when viewed in
Illustrator. Remember to keep an original copy before converting
the fonts for future changes.
 - Certain fonts and thin lines in artwork may not print clearly.
- Watch for small text or areas in your graphics that may fill, especially
on smaller imprint areas.
- If your artwork contains linked files, the linked files must be
submitted along with the final artwork file.
- Vector artwork is typically required for all forms of screen printing,
pad printing, etching, and engraving. It can also be used for embroidery.
- Raster artwork or graphics are images represented by points of
color (pixels) that are typically represented as a grid of colored
rectangles. Bitmap (“.bmp”) and jpeg images are an example of raster
graphics.
- Raster files must be saved at 100% or larger than the actual imprint
area.
- Contact BNoticed for additional specifications
for your particular products including imprint locations, sizing,
color options, etc.
- Not all products can be imprinted with raster artwork. Raster artwork
is most commonly applicable for digital printing options and embroidery.
- Due to the method of application and need for color separation
(see Screen Printing Considerations), vector artwork is typically
required for all screen printing.
- Fonts used in your artwork need to be converted to outlines or
curves prior to being submitted.
- If BNoticed will be typesetting text in your artwork
for you, then also include the font file for us to match your corporate
font.
- For most 4 Color Process and Digital Printing you can submit a
jpeg at a high resolution.
- 4 Color Process may require vector eps files to produce a higher
quality imprint for such products as silk screening on apparel.
- Your particular products will depend on the dots per inch, but
generally will need to be at 600dpi or larger.
- Almost any artwork format (including rastor or vector) can be used
to create embroidery digitized tapes.
- As noted in the Embroidery Considerations section, small images
and fonts may not lend themselves well to embroidery. In many cases,
artwork can be modified to address these limitations.
- Artwork should be produced using professional software packages
capable of saving artwork in approved formats such as eps for vector
artwork and jpeg for raster artwork.
- Adobe Illustrator is one of the most common programs used and provides
the best quality imprint.
- Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher, while useful tools, are
not capable of producing artwork files of the quality necessary for
the imprinting process.
